The Cisco SPA301 includes SIP support, which makes it a popular choice for use with Asterisk, Trixbox, Switchvox, FreePBX, FreeSWITCH, PBXtra, and more. The Cisco SPA301 has been tested to help ensure compatibility with most VoIP service providers and SI- based phone system platforms.

The Cisco SPA301 also supports Cisco's SCCP protocol which delivers compatibility with Cisco Call Manager and Cisco PBX platforms.
