Updating Polycom Firmware
Last Updated: 02/03/2010

The first step is to download and install a tftp server on your PC. A tftp software to use is TFTPD32. TFTD32 can be downloaded here: http://tftpd32.jounin.net/download/Tftpd32-3.35-setup.exe.

You will be prompted to save the program to your PC. Save the program, and when it is finished downloading install it to the default directory and choose to have it add a shortcut to the desktop.

The next step is to download the Polycom firmware files from our FTP site. Contact us if you need the logon information for the site. The format for the files is spip_ssip_version number.zip for the SIP firmware and spip_ssip¬_BootROM_version number.zip for the BootROM firmware.

Create a new folder on your C:\ drive called Polycom and save and extract the firmware files into this newly created folder.

Now you’ll need to run the TFTPD application which should have a shortcut on your desktop. The window that opens will look like this:

Click on the settings button which will take you to another window that looks like this:

In the box labeled base directory change it to the folder that you created for the Polycom firmware files, which should be C:\Polycom. Click OK and you are taken back to the original window which should now look like this:

Note the address that is listed in the Server interfaces box (it will be probably be different than the one pictured) you will need this in a moment.

Now you will need to power on your Polycom phone and on the initial screen press the setup button.

Next enter 456 for the password and scroll to the server menu option and select it.

Change the server type to Trivial FTP.

Change the server address to the address that is listed in the Server interfaces box in the TFTPD window.

Exit both the server menu and the setup menu, the phone will ask you to save your changes and then reboot.

When the phone reboots you should see it update first the BootROM and then the SIP firmware. This process can take 5-10 minutes per phone. There will also be activity in the TFTPD window that shows that the phone has successfully contacted it.

Once the update is done the phone will show a welcome screen where you can verify that the firmware versions have been successfully updated.
