The Benefits of a Cellular VoIP Phone

There are two ways to connect a VoIP desk phone to a network, right? Ethernet cable. Wi-Fi. Well, not always.

Yealink T74LTE adds a third option: 4G LTE cellular. And it doesn’t limit you. You get all three network connectivity options in one high-powered desk phone: 4G + Wi-Fi + LAN.

A professional VoIP phone with 4G, Wi-Fi, and LAN connectivity? Sounds complicated.

But it’s not. Yealink has made triple connectivity very simple.

In this blog, we introduce Yealink T74LTE, describe its features, and clearly explain why it is an excellent choice for business communications in many scenarios.

Let’s get into it!

Triple Network Connectivity = 4G + Wi-Fi + LAN

Let’s start with a brief FAQ about the basics as regards T74LTE as a cellular phone:

  • What cell networks does Yealink T74LTE work with? Yealink T74LTE is compatible with Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile.
  • How do you connect T74LTE to a cellular network? The phone has a Nano SIM card slot. Insert a SIM card, then enable the IMS account in the phone’s Settings menu.
  • Does T74LTE support eSIM? No, it does not support eSIM; you must use a physical SIM card.
  • Does T74LTE support 5G? No, it does not support 5G. 4G coverage is much more extensive and reliable than 5G, and 4G provides sufficient network speed for professional voice calls.

T74LTE also has native Wi-Fi 5 support for wireless network connectivity, plus a 10/100 Ethernet port for wired network connectivity.

When using Wi-Fi or Ethernet, it’s a standard VoIP phone.

When using LTE, it’s what is called a VoLTE phone — Voice Over LTE.

In either case, it’s a SIP phone that must be connected to a VoIP phone system or cloud phone service for operation, just like any other VoIP phone.

You can use it in whichever mode you want.

Supporting triple network connectivity lets you choose the most effective network at any given moment and provides redundancy. If your internet connection goes down, you can switch to cellular.

The cellular desk phone is powered by the included power supply and does not support PoE (Power Over Ethernet).

T74LTE can be unplugged and used in battery mode; it has a 3000 mAh Lithium-ion battery that’s rated for up to 3 hours of talk time. Having a battery is not only convenient, but it lets you move the phone for a better cell signal.

Who is cellular IP desk phones most useful for?

There are two scenarios when Yealink T74LTE is especially useful:

  • Locations where internet connectivity is unreliable but cellular connectivity is reliable
  • Critical or emergency locations where network redundancy is valuable

For the first scenario, urban construction sites are a good example. At home base, you need reliable communications with professional audio performance and business phone system integration, but you might not have a good connection to your ISP.

Urban sites almost always have excellent cell signals. Why not use the simple solution: a VoLTE phone?

Businesses in remote locations like winter lodges or summer camps might face the same dilemma. Running a physical network connection to your ISP might be prohibitively expensive: you can’t do it.

If you have a good cellular connection, why pay for satellite internet?

For the second scenario, consider fire stations or emergency centers.

Taking calls is an absolute necessity: life and death.

A likely phone arrangement would be to have a VoIP phone at the fire station. But internet connections aren’t always reliable.

T74LTE would let you use the phone using a standard Ethernet or Wi-Fi based connection with the always-available backup option of having a cellular connection.

Redundancy is an excellent solution for critical locations.
