IP Cameras & Surveillance Equipment

IP cameras offer substantial benefits over analog/CCTV cameras. Support for high-definition video, hemispheric lenses and multiple video streams are only a few of the reasons why IP security cameras are outstripping their analog counterparts. IP technology also enables these cameras to be accessed and controlled from a remote location.

Video analytics and intelligent event detection lend IP cameras the ability to trigger alerts and alarms. When motion, audio or temperature changes are detected, for example, the camera can issue a notification to administrators via text, email or another supported platform.

How do I shop for an IP camera?

With hundreds of IP cameras on the market, where do you start? A lot of businesses are tempted to shop by price. The correct approach is to shop by camera features. Imagine setting up a webcam to keep your millions of dollars of merchandise secure—not a good idea.

IP cameras with HD image sensors provide high-definition, movie-quality video. The cameras have different lens types with varying fields of view, letting you see a wide frame of reference or a narrow line of sight.

The differences between IP cameras and CCTV cameras are vast. Our blog article, “The Benefits of IP Surveillance Cameras, Part 1,” goes into this topic in detail. IP cameras offer better image quality and lens types, but that’s not the whole picture (no pun intended).

One standout difference is that IP cameras can send and receive data, while CCTV cameras can only send data. With a CCTV camera, what you see is what you get—and you usually won’t see it until the next day when you watch the recording. An IP camera can alert you to an event in progress and let you interact with it. Watch an event live from your smartphone, for example.

Video analytics, remote access, multiple streams and additional alarm types are available to IP cameras. The blog article, “The Benefits of IP Surveillance Cameras, Part 2,” breaks these down further.
